The New York State Trappers Association Spring Conference will be held at Morrisville College in the theatre at the student activity center on Saturday April 24th. Registration will begin at 8:00am; the conference itself will begin at 9:00am. The agenda for the guest speakers will be:
- 9:00 to 9:30 New York State Senator David Valesky
- 9:30 --- 10:30 Ms.Pat Riexinger, Director of the Division of Fish, Wildlife and Marine Resources; New York State Dept. of Environmental Conservation
- 10:30 ---11:30 Nathan Roberts, Wildlife biologist will speak on some of his furbearer research in New York State
- 12:00 –1:30 lunch will be available in a cafeteria across from the theatre.
- 1:30--- 2:30 Russ Carman, well known lure maker, author and trappers advocate.
- 2:30 --- 3:30 Kurt Beaugard, Kurt is a very innovative manufacturer of traps and trapping equipment here in New York and is a member of NYSTA.
Following these speakers long time NYSTA member and noted Catskill trapper Joe Van Houten has some films from some very early NYSTA meetings and conventions that he would like to show. Included in these films are some of the real old timers, Daily, Butcher, leathersich and many others. This could well be the highlight of the day.
If there are enough people interested a dinner; a buffet featuring prime rib, roast chicken and the fixin’s will be available at 6:30 pm at the college at a cost of $25.00/person $45.00 /couple. For those who wish to stay either Friday or Saturday night or both I have blocked rooms at the Days Inn in Canastota @ $59.46+ tax for one queen size bed 0r $67.42 for 2 double beds. The Days Inn is located just off the Canastota Thruway exit. Turn right off the exit ramp and go just a couple of hundred yards. The inn will be on the left., You will need to make your room reservations directly with Days Inn at (315) 697-3309. Reservations need to be made by April 9, 2010.
Morrisville is located on NYS rt 20 about 12 miles south of Canastota just check a map for your easiest route to get there.
