Erie County Trappers Herb Eble Award

Herb Eble started trapping at the age of 10, and continued until his death at the age of ninety. His enthusiasm for the sport of trapping was well known in his home town. The local fur buyers recognized his skill in the preparation of his pelts for sale, which were in great demand. He helped many new trappers by encouraging them to first master the basics of trapping muskrat and raccoon. Herb was a lifetime member of the Erie County Trappers and New York State Trappers Association. He received the Trapper of the Year Award in 1993.

In honor of his life time contributions to the sport he loved, the “Herb Eble” Youth Award was created. This award is dedicated to all past trappers and is awarded to those young trappers who best exemplify Herb’s enthusiasm and respect for the sport of trapping.

To be eligible for this award you must submit a brief essay expressing why you want to be a trapper. Applicants must not be older than 16 years of age.

Winners will be asked to join us with their families, to be honored at our December meeting Christmas Party. Each will receive an award package which will include traps, stretchers, lure, fur handling supplies, membership in the Erie County Trappers Association, Cattaraugus County Trappers, NY State Trappers (with Trappers Post publication), club hat and patch.
